Jennifer Maloney

Chair

My name is Jennifer Maloney, I am a mom of 4 and Certified Financial Planner. I run a thriving financial Planning Practice in the Kingston and Quinte region. I have a passion for helping others especially when it comes to financial wellness and mental Health. There is such a strong connection between the 2 aspects of personal well being I have added my expertise to the Resolve Counselling Board of Directors as a way to give back to individuals struggling in these areas. A little fun about me, I am learning to play the guitar and I love British Crime dramas.

Patricia Appleyard

Vice-Chair

As Director, Labour Relations for College Employer Council, Trish provides guidance and advice to her clients in the public college sector on a wide variety of labour relations, human resource and human rights issues. Trish has previously worked as a labour and employment lawyer with the law firm of Baker & McKenzie LLP. She relocated to Kingston in 2011 and spent five years at Queen’s University Faculty of Law as the Associate Director, Centre for Law in the Contemporary Workplace before moving to St. Lawrence College where she was the Associate Director, Workplace Relations.

Trish has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary, and a Master of Industrial Relations and Juris Doctor degrees, both from Queen’s University. She spent 6 weeks in Geneva at the International Labour Organization’s International Organization for Employers in 2010, where she assisted with drafting a guide to the ILO’s conventions. Trish is licensed by the Law Society of Ontario.

In the community, Trish was previously a member of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Kingston and assisted in the amalgamation with the YMCA of Brockville to create the Eastern Region YMCA.

Susan Conway Williamson

Secretary

For thirty-seven years, Susan has pursued a vocation in education serving in various academic positions culminating in a principal role spanning over twenty years for the Algonquin & Lakeshore District School Board in Kingston. During this time, she has also instructed at Queen’s University, Faculty of Education, which she continues in retirement along with occasional principal contracts.

Her Community Service roles have included Board and Executive positions for the Kingston Gymnastics Club, the Principals’/Vice-Principals’ Association of the ALCDSB, the Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario and the St. Joseph’s Parish Catholic Women’s League.

Susan is a longstanding Resolve Counselling Services Canada Board Member utilizing her formidable skills in policy development, leadership, mentoring and child and family issues.

Kate Hall

Treasurer

Kate Hall is the Chief Financial Officer of Yupi.ca, a globally trusted supplier of conventional and organic food products. With a robust background in public accounting, Kate has adeptly served diverse clients across Kingston and its surrounding areas, including managing the financial needs of various not-for-profit organizations. Committed to leveraging her financial acumen for the greater good, Kate aligns herself with organizations like Resolve Counselling Services, championing shared values.

Kate has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Guelph and also holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation, exemplifying her dedication to excellence in her field. Beyond her professional endeavors, Kate actively engages with her community, participating in local events such as the Motionball Marathon of Sport and the CIBC Run for the Cure. She also leads financial workshops tailored for female entrepreneurs in small towns, embodying her passion for mental health, financial wellness, and community empowerment.

Carole Weir

Director

Carole completed her career in Education as Director of Education and Chief Executive Officer of the Superior North Catholic District School Board. Since her retirement she has devoted herself to strengthening public health through policy development, governance, systemic and organizational change in health care organizations.

Carole served for more than 3 decades in education and gained vast experience through a wide range of teaching, administrative and executive roles in the counties of Frontenac Lennox and Addington as well as many communities north of Lake Superior.

During her retirement she has fulfilled the role of Chairperson of the Kingston, Frontenac Lennox and Addington Community Care Access Centre as well as Chairperson of the South Eastern Ontario Infection Control Network. Also, she has been President of the Ontario Physical and Health Education Committee and Vice-Chair of the Foundation Board of the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. Carole has recently completed her service with the Ontario Agency for Health and Protection.

Michael Taylor

Director

Michael Taylor is currently the Ontario Regional Chaplain for Correctional Services of Canada. His more than 25 year Chaplaincy and leadership career has placed him in Mental Health, Hospital, Long Term Care and Correctional environments.

He holds a Master of Theological Studies degree from Regis College of the University of Toronto and is a graduate of the Rotman School of Management’s Leadership Development Program.

He was appointed an Honorary Witness to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Canada in October 2011, was awarded the African Canadian Achievement Award of Excellence in Religion in 2016.

Michael is a Past Secretary of the Canadian Council of Imams and represents Canada’s Muslim community on the Interfaith Committee on Canadian Military Chaplaincy.

Bruce Somers

Director

A long standing career at Correctional Service of Canada has seen Bruce proudly serve in many capacities including Warden of area institutions and currently as the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Correctional Operations at Regional Headquarters in Kingston.

Hal Cain

Director

Dr. Cain is an academic and professional counsellor who lives in Kingston, ON Canada. He has over 35 years professional experience including university teaching, conducting research, clinical practice, professional organizational development, and disabilities advocacy.

He earned his Ph.D. in rehabilitation services from The Ohio State University, an M. S. in rehabilitation counseling from the University of North Texas, and a B.A. in psychology form Texas Tech University.

Dr. Cain has published and given numerous presentations, national and international, in areas such as transition from school to adult life for persons with disabilities, identity and professional development, and professional ethics.

In addition, he has been extensively involved with both professional and non-profit organizations; holding Board and Chair positions.

Carolyn Aitken

Director

Carolyn Aitken, CD, BSc (Queen’s Applied Science), MEng (Royal Military College), CEC

Following a successful career spanning over 40 years in the Public Service, including 26 years as a supportability engineer in the Canadian Army and 14 years as a Human Resources specialist in the Department of National Defence, Carolyn has adopted new vocations and interests, bringing her wealth of knowledge and experience to Executive and Leadership coaching, human resources and project management consulting and most recently on the Board of Directors at Resolve Counselling.

As a subject matter expert in organizational design, job evaluation and classification advice and services for executive positions in the Federal Public Service, Carolyn’s expertise is unmatched. However, it is her passion for supporting and learning from others that truly sets her apart, energizes and intrigues her.

Carolyn completed the Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching (CEC) at Royal Roads University in Victoria in 2022 and has fallen in love with coaching, which affords her the privilege to work with teams and individuals as they further develop leadership skills, navigate career transition or as a thought partner in the creation a brighter future for themselves and those around them.

In her spare time, Carolyn enjoys curling, baking, gardening, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
