During these trying and terbulent times, many people across our community struggle with mental health issues. From families facing debt and financial strain to youth facing depression and addiction; from seniors facing loneliness and isolation to women and children facing gender based violence. The need for mental health counselling services is great.
About 1 in 5 Canadians experience mental illness each year. Many must wait to get the care they need, while others don’t get any care or don’t get enough — with young people particularly hard hit by lack of services. Mental health and substance use disorders were already leading causes of disability in Canada for adults and children when COVID-19 disrupted lives and brought new levels of isolation, stress, fear and grief.
Thankfully, generous donors have helped Resolve meet changing community needs by providing increased access to services through a weekly walk-in clinic, remote and virtual counselling options, and a Women’s Program; which provides tiered and triaged options for women facing gender based violence. In 2023, Resolve also added a Youth Peer Support Program and a Financial Wellness Program to its holistic basket of services for the community.
We need to ensure that our counsellors are enabled to provide much-needed help— especially as we see the need continue to soar.
For more than 50 years, Resolve Counselling Services Canada has offered mental health counselling services to families and individuals across our community; helping them build resilience and improve well-being.
