Our Counselling Services

Children and youth who are experiencing social, emotional and/or relationship difficulties will benefit from our Child & Youth Counselling Program. Counsellors believe that all children and youth need a connection to family or other positive role models to help them mature.  This link is vital in order to provide guidance, direction and nurturing.  Supporting children and youth will in turn lead to healthy relationships and mature adults.  Counsellors realize the needs and concerns of children and youth are much different than those of adults.  The support we offer will include measures to deal with these differences.

We believe that all forms of physical, sexual, verbal or emotional abuse are WRONG.

Our programs support individuals through group and individual counselling to understand the dynamics of abuse, and to break the cycle of abuse. Women’s Counsellors are here to offer support to women dealing with past or present abuse from their partner.  Caring Dads and PAR (Partner Assault Response) works with people who have perpetrated violence to understand themselves and the cycle of abuse better. We provide a confidential, safe and supportive place where people can talk about their experiences and explore their options.

We believe that the family, in its many and varied forms, is the fundamental unit of our society. Counsellors are committed to promoting individual, partner, parental, and family well-being. This support leads to healthy relationships and strong communities.

This program provides affordable counselling for individuals, families and couples who are experiencing stress and other challenges in the midst of a variety of life challenges. Healthy communication and interaction are fundamental to promoting skills in managing stress, resolving conflicts, dealing with anger, and managing anxiety, depression and loneliness.

Resolve Counselling Services Canada receives referrals from Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) — the access point for adult developmental services funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) in Ontario.   Individuals seeking developmental services must apply through DSO to see if they are eligible to receive the adult MCCSS funded supports that are available at Resolve Counselling Services Canada.

FSEAP Kingston (Family Services Employee Assistance program) is a provider of Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), Employee and Family Assistance Programs (EFAP), Member Assistance Programs, and Member and Family Assistance Programs. All of our employee assistance programs and services provide organizations with customizable, effective results that promote workplace wellness, and helps employees and their families deal with personal and professional mental health issues.  FSEAP also provides organizational support as an important element of improving overall workplace wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sometimes the challenges we face in our daily lives become too difficult to manage alone. We may need someone to talk to who can help us find solutions. Resolve is a non-profit, social service agency which offers a variety of counselling programs; one-to-one, with couples and families, or in groups to help people cope with the challenges of:

  • personal, job, relationship, parenting and family problems;
  • aging and caring for an aging family member;
  • coping with developmental disabilities;
  • dealing with separation, divorce and new relationships;
  • surviving domestic violence and sexual abuse;
  • accessing community resources;
  • dealing with sexual and gender orientation issues;
  • living in poverty;
  • and so much more.

Resolve is strongly committed to anti-discrimination practices for all our clients, volunteers and employees. Our services are available to everyone living or working in our community, regardless of their age, cultural background, race or sexual orientation. In order to serve our growing and diverse population, we offer service in numerous languages and our offices are wheelchair accessible.

At Resolve, we offer an encouraging and supportive environment. Our skilled professional counsellors will help you explore and understand your problem, and help you develop solutions. You will initially connect with a counsellor from our intake team who will assess your situation and recommend a program to fit your needs.  This may be connecting with a counsellor, a group or our walk in.  The intake counsellor will help guide you through this process.

Counselling can be a very rewarding experience, but it takes hard work and dedication. That’s why it is important to attend all your scheduled sessions and be open to new ways of looking at yourself. It is also important to be an active participant and to tell us what you find helpful or unhelpful throughout the counselling process.

All your personal data and anything discussed between you and your counsellor is private and confidential within Resolve. To get advice on how to be most helpful to you, your counsellor may consult with the service team, colleagues within Resolve, supervisor or program consultant. We will not provide other individuals with your information without your written consent.

There are some special circumstances where we may release information regarding your counselling:

  • if we believe you or someone else is in imminent danger of physical harm, and information we have might prevent it;
  • if a child under 16 may be at risk of abuse;
  • if we’re subpoenaed by a court of law;
  • or if we’re presented with a search warrant.
